Sizing a surface cleaner to your machine

Deck size should follow your machine's flow: too large a deck on too small a machine leaves lap marks and slows you down. As a rule of thumb, 4-5.5 GPM machines run 20" decks well, while 8+ GPM units drive 24" and larger decks at full walking speed. Hot water improves results on oil-stained concrete.

  • 20-21" decks - driveways, sidewalks, patios (4-5.5 GPM)
  • 24"+ decks - parking lots, warehouse floors, large flatwork (8-10 GPM)

Keep spare nozzles on hand - surface cleaner tips wear like any other nozzle and dull tips are the usual cause of striping.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my surface cleaner leaving stripes? Usually worn or mismatched nozzles, or a deck too big for the machine's GPM. Replace tips first - it is the cheap fix.
